Nidhi Shah on breaking stereotypes around women on TV with Anupamaa

Anupamaa on Star Plus is an absolute delight and while it plays itself out with a constant set of twists and turns, it also tries to show women in a progressive light. Actress Nidhi Shah, who plays the role of Kinjal in the show got talking about how it has managed to break stereotypes around women on television, among other things. She also seemed to be in absolute awe of Rupali Ganguly, who plays her mother-in-law in the show.

The actress says, ''Anupamaa is killing it, everywhere I go, I see people talk about her. The trend of moms had gone away as the character of a mother was not the focus for a while but with Anupamaa, the way the character has been portrayed by Rupali ji, it is fantastic and phenomenal. I myself enjoy the show so much that I watch my own show every day and I also start crying and feel what is going on. I think everyone is loving Anupmaa and it is doing really well. My family, loves the show as well. Rupaliji is doing justice to the character, every house has an Anupamma because people can relate to it. There are women I know who now want to do something by taking inspiration from the show.''

Kinjal is one character, that you will see how she is qualified and comes from a rich background and is staying with a family that is not so well to do and she is adjusting in that space without asking her husband to shift to a different place. Women today, I think need to understand that.

Nidhi also got talking about how her role as Kinjal sets things apart in more ways than one, trying to deviate from how daughters-in-law are shown on-screen. She says, ''One thing I really like about Kinjal is that she is not the kind who thinks about just herself but thinks about everyone, including how Anupmaa and the family also need growth. Kinjal is one character, that you will see how she is qualified and comes from a rich background and is staying with a family that is not so well to do and she is adjusting in that space without asking her husband to shift to a different place. Women today, I think need to understand that. One stereotype that Kinjal is breaking is how she is working as well as managing the house, and also taking care of Anupamaa.''

Nidhi was recently infected with the novel Coronavirus and was in home quarantine ever since. The actress has been active on social media and keep sharing photos and videos from time to time.
