Last year, Netflix released Sacred Games, a series based on Vikram Chandra’s novel by the same name, which went on to become the first original series of Netflix India. The first edition starring Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte became a huge hit which paved the way for other original series for the Indian market.
The series produced by Phantom Films and directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, will be seeing some new additions to the original cast including actors Ranvir Shorey and Kalki Koechlin.
About the Trailer:
The trailer opens up with a telephone ringing, giving a nostalgic feel. Yes, Ganesh Gaitonde is back with his narration of events and hinting that this time the game has got even bigger. Gaitonde can be seen in his same old raw swag with more violence while Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan) is still trying to connect the dots. Gaitonde’s third father aka Guruji (Pankaj Tripathi) has made a bang on entry in a never seen before avatar, preaching gangsters about life. With Guruji asking for ‘Sacrifice’, this season has raised a significant question - “Is the world worth saving?”
Highlights:
Character-building :
Pankaj Tripathi’s character development is the major highlight of the season. A carefree and socially unconventional character, who is preaching notorious criminals and gangsters of the city and seeks sacrifice. We could also see Ganesh Gaitonde all suited up surrounded by pile of files and paper work in an office setting.
New Additions in the family:
Well, we did miss Anjali Mathur (Radhika Apte) in the trailer. Actors Ranvir Shorey and Kalki Koechlin have marked their entry into the Sacred Games world with the second edition and we are looking forward to their performances. The trailer also hinted at unfolding of Sartaj’s father and Gaitonde’s mysterious relation.
Intensity:
As Gaitonde already said, “I just wanted revenge” So, this definitely calls for war. Keeping the tradition alive, this season promises more violence and more mystery.
Verdict:
The trailer looked intriguing with the intense performances and extra dose of everything. It seems the wait has been worth as the mystery behind everything will unfold. The new elements in the plot and new additions in the cast, is a cherry on the cake.
The series will stream from 15th August on Netflix. Watch the trailer here :
