Gemplex India’s newly launched series, Khushfemiyaan depicts the story of Peter and his three chefs, who fall in love with his daughter. Starring Nasir Abdulla, Pratibha Tiwarri, Maitrik Thakkar, Aman Tyagi and Ankit Raizada, the series is six episodes long and set in the exotic locations of Goa. The series is directed by Vishal Kumar Patil and produced by Prakash Tiwari and Rohan Tiwari.

Veteran actor Nasir Abdulla, who is known for his performances in popular and critically acclaimed films like Page 3 and Manto got candid about Khushfemiyaan and much more.

What is Khushfemiyaan about?

The film is about three friends who have in the past been together in a restaurant in Goa. They were chefs brought up by Peter. They had a good time there but due to certain reasons, they had to leave the restaurant because of the development of certain animosity between them because of a young girl, who happens to be the daughter of their boss, Peter. Later, they come back after years for the funeral of their former boss. They reminisce about the good times they had. It is a take-back into the past, how they had a great time and other stuff that happened with them. It is basically a walk down memory lane.

How would you define your character from the series?

I play the owner of the restaurant that happens to cater to the tourists who visit Goa. He has a daughter who lives away from Goa, somewhere in a European country because he was divorced from his wife. So, he is a self-made man and likes to live the life of a single man, who runs a restaurant and trains these three young boys and brings them. One day, his daughter happens to come to Goa from abroad and then, somehow these boys fall madly in love with her and want to marry her but she is not really interested. They are very nasty with each other because each of them has a desire for his daughter and one day, he fires them all.

After working in critically acclaimed movies like Page 3 and Manto, how do you feel about the transition from Bollywood to digital?

Nothing really! For me work is work. So, you know you work for this format, and that format but basically you are doing your job. This time the format is really different but the demand on the person is the same. Page 3 was a different sort of a film and I did another film called Mitra My Friend, which got three of the national awards, where I played a father to a young growing girl in America. So yes, it was a different scenario and here I’m playing an estranged man from his wife but he still has a purpose in his life.

What aspects do you look for in a script and how do you go about it?

There is no hard and fast rule. Basically, my approach is giving this script as the dream of the director and the team. For me, it is about doing the needful for the director to make, help him and realise about a film he has in mind. If I look for anything, I look for how can I do things with my contributions to make the film look good and authentic, to make the part look the way the director actually wants. So, my job is to help him fulfil his dream.
