My comedies are stress-busters for viewers: Govinda (Interview)

New Delhi, Sep 20 (IANS) Bollywood funnyman Govinda, who has teamed up with director David Dhawan for the 19th time in yet another comedy 'Do Knot Disturb', says he loves doing 'time-pass' films' as they serve as 'stress-busters for the audiences'.

'Do Knot Disturb' doesn't give you time to think... it only makes you laugh and keeps you happy - which has been (the case) with almost all of David's films. Audiences laugh...and come out satisfied and happy - which has always been a big achievement for us,' Govinda told IANS in an interview here.

'The best part about the film is that it has no end... neither a happy end nor a tragic one. It's like an episode with excellent humour punches. But it has a couple of messages in the garb of humour, especially about people who go out and cheat on their wives, which might help many families,' he said.

Govinda has worked with David Dhawan for innumerable laugh riots like 'Aankhen', 'Raja Babu', 'Hero No.1', 'Saajan Chale Sasural', 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan', 'Haseena Maan Jaayegi', 'Jodi No.1' and 'Partner'. So, doesn't he mind getting typecast in comic roles?

'I don't mind getting typecast into any genre... Till the time I'm not forgotten and I'm doing well and paid well, it's ok with me. At the end of the day, everyone wants to be famous and entertain people and it doesn't matter how you do that,' said Govinda, who was in the capital to promote the movie.

'I believe in doing films that are completely time-pass because with the nuisance of the character in my films, they come out to be stress-busters for the audiences,' the star added.

Co-produced by Big Pictures and Vashu Bhagnani, 'Do Knot Disturb' is a laughathon on marriage and infidelity.

Releasing Oct 2, it also stars Lara Dutta, Sushmita Sen, Riteish Deshmukh, Sohail Khan, Ranvir Shorey and Rajpal Yadav.

'My character in the film is a bit characterless who by the end starts gaining his character,' the actor laughed while describing his role.

And he admits that it was great to work with not just one but two beauty queens who had been crowned Miss Universe - Sushmita and Lara.

'Both my heroines are so beautiful... I used to feel full of life with both Miss Universes on both my sides in the film. But besides being beauties, they are wonderful actors and people to work with,' said Govinda, who has more than 120 films to his credit.

Nineteen films with David Dhawan and still counting. What is so special about the camaraderie he shares with the filmmaker?

'Fortunately, I've been successful with him and we pray that this relationship continues. The thing that actually binds us together is David's innocence. I don't say no to any film he approaches me with,' the 45-year-old said.

'Apparently it's the same with Salman (Khan) and Sanju (Sanjay Dutt)... we have a 'no script' session with David. We don't listen to any script from him because when we work together he gives us full freedom to do whatever we want to. He doesn't even tell us the scene. He just comes, explains the scenario a bit and leaves it to us,' he revealed.

Asked if he had any prerequisites for choosing his movies, Govinda said: 'If one thinks too much about the subject and the genre of a film, then you don't end up entertaining audiences and my motto is to entertain the masses who've given me so much love and respect over all these years.'

Govinda's future projects include 'Main Aur Mrs. Khanna', 'Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai', 'Run Bhola Run', 'Chai Garam', 'Don't Worry', 'Naughty@40', 'Raavan' and 'Ab Dilli Door Nahin' (voiceover).
