After winning everyone's heart as the bratty yet lovable physiotherapist in Khoobsurat (2014), Sonam Kapoor returns to steal the audiences' heart, and her leading man's money in the upcoming con film, Dolly Ki Doli. Releasing on the 23rd of January, Dolly Ki Doli also stars Rajkummar Rao, Varun Sharma and Pulkit Samrat in lead roles, and is directed by debutant Abhishek Dogra. Produced by Arbaaz and Malaika Khan, the movie's music has been given by Sajid-Wajid. The album comprises of 5 tracks, and we at BollyCurry have the pleasure in reviewing the album for our readers.
Next up in the album
is "Fashion Khatam Mujhpe", an item song featuring the sexy Malaika
Arora Khan. It goes without saying, that when Sajid-Wajid are composing the
music for an Arbaaz Khan production, there just
has to be an item song sung by Mamta Sharma. Like always, the song is
upbeat and Sharma has been accompanied by Wajid and Shabab Sabri. The first
item song of the year, "Fashion Khatam Mujhpe", is an average number,
and is definitely worth a one-time listen.
The phrase
"Babaji Ka Thullu" was coined by Kapil Sharma in his popular show, Comedy Nights with Kapil and went on to
become a rage. So much so, that Sajid-Wajid actually composed a rap on it.
Wajid and Danish Sabri have lent their voices to this out-of-the-box song. The
absolutely nonsensical lyrics make the song all the more ludicrous. A word of
advice, don't listen to this song more than once, unless you enjoy losing brain
cells to such songs.
Up next is
"Dolly Ki Doli", sung by Divya Kumar. The title track of the movie
opens to very strong electric beats, and Kumar's baritone only heightens the
fast-paced tempo of the song. This one is definitely a good one for the party
playlists!
The album comes to a
close with "Mere Naina Kaafir Ho Gaye", sung by the immensely
talented Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. The song is the next best in the series of
Sajid-Wajid's songs about the female lead's naina,
and honestly, this one's nothing different from the previous two outings.
Despite having distinct similarities to the previous two, "Mere Naina
Kaafir Ho Gaye" is the weakest composition of the entire album.
After the release of
the first song, "Phatte Tak Nachna", we at BollyCurry, had high
expectations from the talented composer duo, Sajid Wajid. However, this album
has nothing different to offer from their previous outings (read Dabangg and
Dabangg 2), and we're tired of the repetitive compositions. Hence we rate this album a 2 out of 5 stars.
