Sony LIV is gearing up to bring viewers a new psychological thriller that delves into buried trauma and fractured relationships. KanKhajura, set to begin streaming on May 30, is an Indian series that takes inspiration from the Israeli show Magpie, reinterpreting the original narrative through a distinctly local lens.
The plot revolves around two estranged brothers pulled back into each other’s orbit under unsettling circumstances. Their reunion triggers a series of events that blur the lines between their recollections and the reality they are living in. The premise hinges on the notion that memory isn’t always a place of comfort — sometimes, it can be the trap one cannot break out of.
In the midst of this unfolding tension is the character of Nisha, portrayed by Sarah Jane Dias. Reflecting on the role, the actor mentioned how emotionally demanding the process was, suggesting that the story challenges both its characters and audience to confront uncomfortable truths. Nisha’s inner world seems to mirror the larger themes of the show — fragile facades masking unprocessed emotion and inner turmoil.

The rest of the cast includes Mahesh Shetty, Ninad Kamat, Trinetra Haldar, Heeba Shah, and Usha Nadkarni — all stepping into a world that hinges on tension, doubt, and old wounds.
The Indian adaptation has been re-envisioned with contributions from original creators Adam Bizanski, Omri Shenhar, and Dana Eden, and developed under license from yes Studios. Donna and Shula Productions have also lent their creative backing.
As streaming platforms continue to explore grittier, psychologically charged content, KanKhajura adds itself to a growing list of Indian shows willing to probe into the darker corridors of the human mind. The show’s central premise asks a haunting question: can you really leave the past behind, or does it eventually find its way back — in silence, in shadows, and in memory?
