Telugu actor Mohan Babu is facing serious charges following an alleged attack on a video journalist in Hyderabad. On Thursday, the police confirmed that an attempt to murder charge was added to the case against the veteran actor. This follows a complaint filed by the 35-year-old journalist, who had earlier reported the incident. A case was initially filed under Section 118 (1) for voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons or substances, but it has now been altered to Section 109 (attempt to murder) based on the journalist’s statement.
According to News18, the journalist mentioned that he had gone to Mohan Babu’s Jalpally residence on December 10 to report on a family dispute involving the actor and his younger son, Manoj. During his visit, the actor allegedly confronted him and other journalists in an aggressive manner. The journalist stated that Mohan Babu snatched his microphone, used abusive language, and attacked him with it, causing an injury to his head.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the police served notices to Mohan Babu, his elder son Vishnu, and Manoj under Section 126 for their involvement in the family dispute. They were instructed to appear before the Rachakonda Commissioner of Police, G Sudheer Babu. However, the family members approached the Telangana High Court, which granted them exemption from appearance until December 24.
Manoj, who had already appeared before the commissioner on Wednesday, provided a bond of Rs one lakh and gave a statement. The commissioner suggested that the family should settle their differences peacefully, without escalating the issue to a law and order problem. Manoj also agreed to a bond, promising not to engage in actions that might disturb public peace.
The ongoing family conflict came to light on December 9 when Mohan Babu filed a police complaint accusing Manoj and his wife of trying to take control of his Jalpally residence using force. Manoj, however, clarified that his issue was not about property but about “self-respect and the safety of his wife and children."
The dispute also led to a counter-complaint by Manoj, who claimed that 10 unidentified individuals entered the house on December 8. Manoj alleged that he was injured while trying to stop them.
