Millie Bobby Brown has had enough of the harsh media scrutiny surrounding her appearance. The Stranger Things actress recently slammed tabloids for their ageist remarks, particularly those claiming she looks older than her actual age. In a candid conversation, she addressed the ongoing criticism and expressed her frustration over the unrealistic expectations placed on her.
During her appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Brown opened up about the comments she frequently receives about her looks. Over the years, people have pointed out that she appears much older than her real age. However, the actress had the perfect response to such remarks.
"A thing that I get a lot is like, 'Oh my God, she looks like 40.' And I'm like, well yeah, you did meet me when I was 10, so I understand. Now I'm 21, it's been 10 years. She grows. My face like, grew. What do you want me to do about that?" Brown said, making it clear that people need to accept natural aging as a part of life.
She also addressed the scrutiny over her accent change, stating that her speech patterns have evolved due to her career and personal growth. "Yeah, my accent does change. My face does grow. I do wear a lot of makeup. It's just the kind of person I am," she added, emphasizing that these changes are normal and not something to be judged for.
Brown didn’t just stop at discussing public criticism. She also took a direct shot at the media for constantly dissecting her appearance. On March 3, she posted a video on Instagram calling out specific press outlets for what she described as “bullying” and unrealistic expectations. "The media needs to relearn basic manners. Nobody should have to deal with this kind of scrutiny, especially young women," she stated firmly.
Despite facing intense media attention, Brown has reached a point where she no longer lets such comments affect her self-esteem. "It used to get to me, it did … And I remember trying to change myself to please the masses," she admitted. However, she has now embraced herself fully and refuses to let the negativity define her.
Brown is currently busy promoting her upcoming Netflix film, The Electric State, alongside Chris Pratt. She also made an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, where she discussed why she chose to speak out against the media at this point in her career.
From playing Eleven in Stranger Things to starring in major Hollywood films, Millie Bobby Brown has grown in front of the world. And now, she is making it clear that she won’t let unnecessary criticism dim her shine.
