Director Matt Reeves has expressed openness to integrating The Batman into James Gunn's new DC Universe, but only if it aligns with the narrative. The sequel's shooting is expected to commence this year, according to Variety.

Recently, James Gunn revealed that he has considered bringing The Batman (2022), directed by Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson, into his reimagined DC Universe. Reeves addressed this during a podcast at the Golden Globes.

"It really comes down to whether it makes sense," Reeves stated. "There was a story I wanted to tell. The epic crime saga. It's been important to me to play that out, and James and Peter have been really great about that. They are letting us do that. What the future brings, I can't really tell you. I have no idea. My head is down right now on getting The Batman Part II shooting, which is the most important thing."

Regarding Robert Pattinson's potential transition into the DC Universe, Reeves commented, "I don't know, we will have to see where that goes."

Warner Bros. recently announced a new release date for The Batman Part II, postponing it by a year. The film is now scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on October 1, 2027.

The delay sparked disappointment among fans. Addressing this, James Gunn defended the decision, citing examples of long gaps between sequels of iconic films. "To be fair, a 5-year gap or more is fairly common in sequels," Gunn wrote, mentioning Alien, Incredibles, Terminator, Avatar, and Top Gun.

Gunn also clarified the reason behind the delay, stating, "The only reason for the delay is there isn't a full script. Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write."

The Batman was a major box office success, grossing approximately $369.3 million domestically and $772 million worldwide.
