Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 13 (IANS) The three biggest stars in the Malayalam film industry are pitted against one another after their films hit the silver screen Friday, spoiling the filmgoers for choice this long weekend.
Superstars Mammootty, Mohanlal and Suresh Gopi had 'Nazarani', 'Paradeshi' and 'Black cat' respectively releasing the same day, much to the delight of their numerous fans.
All three actors have their own fan clubs that are fierce rivals.
Mammootty starrer 'Nazarani' is an out and out commercial thriller directed by veteran filmmaker Joshi. Mammootty plays a rich Christian.
Speaking to IANS, Mammootty said that the initial response to the film was good.
On the other two films being released, Mammootty said: 'I have not seen the other two films, so I don't know. I am happy that the first reports of my film are good.'
Former legislator P.T. Kunhumohammed directed Mohanlal starrer 'Paradeshi'. That film tells the story of a young man who moved to Karachi to look after his family but found himself stuck in Pakistan after the partition in 1947.
He finally manages to join his family in Kerala - but on a Pakistani passport. The film dwells on the trials and tribulations of families who are forced to stay as aliens in their own land.
Reacting to the film after its release, Mohanlal said that this film should not be seen as an art film.
'I would rate this role as one of the best that I have ever done. This film should be approached in a different manner and must be seen with the family. People should realise that there are many people who live with such problems. Any actor would be fortunate to get such a film,' said Mohanlal.
Suresh Gopi goes for a complete change in appearance for the Vinayan-directed 'Black cat' where he plays a hit man for a rich businessman.
Gopi goes for long hair, dull make-up and wears sleeveless vests and shorts in the film that is a change from his usual dapper appearance.
'I was totally surprised that the maximum response after the first few show came from ladies, who have appreciated my performance. I am pleased that this is different from my other films,' Gopi said.
Reacting to the other two superstars who also had their films released Friday, he held that there was no competition at all.
