Content creator and reality TV personality Payal Malik, currently seen on Bigg Boss OTT 3, has publicly apologized following widespread criticism over a video in which she appeared dressed as the Hindu deity Kali Maa. The video, which triggered backlash on social media for allegedly disrespecting religious sentiments, prompted Payal to visit the sacred Kali Mata Temple in Patiala on Tuesday, July 22, where she expressed deep remorse.
Visibly emotional, Payal appeared before the temple deity alongside her husband, Armaan Malik, and daughter, Tuba. She broke down in front of media and devotees, conveying her regret for unintentionally offending people’s beliefs. Payal emphasized that her actions stemmed not from disrespect but from a place of admiration and devotion.
“My daughter has immense faith in Goddess Kali, and I only wanted to create something special for her. It was never meant to hurt anyone’s sentiments. I understand now that it was inappropriate, and I truly apologize,” she said.
Payal further explained that the video in question was originally filmed three months ago and had been removed shortly after being posted, once she became aware of the negative response. Despite its deletion, some online users had downloaded and re-shared the footage, causing the controversy to resurface.

“I read the feedback, realized the mistake, and took the video down immediately. But others had already saved it and are now circulating it again,” she explained.
In a symbolic act of penance, Payal and Armaan participated in temple duties, helping with chores such as washing dishes and distributing food to devotees. She later posted snippets of their temple service on Instagram, expressing hope that people would accept her apology.
Payal also stated that she is open to any disciplinary action religious leaders may deem necessary. “I am ready to face any consequences. I only seek forgiveness,” she added.
The video, which featured traditional religious icons like the Trishul and crown, was seen by many as an inappropriate representation of the goddess.
Payal and Armaan, known for their unconventional family dynamic—including Armaan’s marriages to both Payal and her close friend Kritika Malik—are among the most talked-about personalities from the current season of Bigg Boss OTT, hosted by Salman Khan. Together, the trio share four children: Chirayu, Tuba, Ayan, and Zaid.
