Lata Mangeshkar is titled as Nightingale of India. Now, the Modi led government plans to confer an honorary position to the legendary singer with another title which slates her as the ‘Daughter of the Nation’. The title would go in effect on her 90th birthday, i.e September 28!
The title is a tribute to her contribution to the Indian film music she has offered for over seven decades.
A report in India Today stated: "Modiji is a very big fan of Lataji's voice. She represents the collective voice of the Indian nation. Honouring her is to honour the daughter of the nation and that's what we will officially designate her on her 90th birthday."
Poet-lyricist Prasoon Joshi has written a special song for the occasion.
Lata Ji was bestowed with several awards so far and she made her debut in the music industry at the age of 13 with the song ‘Naachu Yaa Gade, Khelu Saari Mani Haus Bhaari’. She roped all of India’s attention with her songs.
Recently, Lata Ji was asked about Ranu Mondal. The 89-year-old singer broke her silence about the same as she tried expressing her happiness with reservations.
She said: "But I also feel imitation is not a reliable and durable companion for success. By singing my songs or Kishoreda’s (Kumar), or (Mohd) Rafi Saab’s, or Mukesh Bhaiyya or Asha’s (Bhosle) numbers, aspiring singers can get short-term attention. But it won’t last."
