Actor Kajol, who was recently seen in Sarzameen, shared her views on cosmetic procedures and ageing during an interview with Filmfare. As part of their In The Ring series, the conversation touched on how public figures are often scrutinised for aesthetic choices. Kajol responded with clarity, noting that these decisions are deeply personal. “Whether someone is in the limelight or not, it’s a personal choice,” she said when asked about going under the knife. “It’s about what works for you and what doesn’t.” She further clarified that such decisions shouldn’t be viewed through a gendered lens. “It is not gender relevant. There are a lot of men who are doing it as well. In fact, equal amounts, I would say,” Kajol noted, adding that many of them prefer to keep it private.

Challenging the assumption that cosmetic procedures are only associated with women, Kajol said that several male public figures have opted for it too. “Men who you probably do not know about or don’t even want to comment on this particular stage,” she pointed out. “So, I would say that it is definitely something that is a personal choice.”

The actor also spoke about ageing, describing it as a privilege, not something to be shamed or feared. “Ageing, as far as I am concerned, is in the mind,” she said. “There are a lot of people who’ve died young and never had the chance to age at all. That doesn’t mean they’re lucky. That just means they didn’t have the chance to age and come forward in life.”

Kajol said she looks forward to the years ahead, choosing to see them not with anxiety but with a sense of purpose. “So yes, I have that many more wonderful years to live forward. And I’m looking forward to it.”

On the professional front, Kajol is currently being appreciated for her role in Sarzameen, directed by Kayoz Irani, where she stars alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan. Before that, she appeared in Maa, directed by Vishal Furia. The film, which released in theatres on June 27, also featured Ronit Roy and Indraneil Sengupta.
