This Women’s Day, actor Abhishek Malik says that the portrayal of women characters on screen has changed drastically. He adds that they are shown to be stronger now.

“Over the years, there has definitely been progress in how women are portrayed on television. Today, we see more strong, independent, and multifaceted female characters who are not just confined to traditional roles. Storytelling has the power to shape perceptions, and it is important that TV continues to evolve, showcasing women as leaders, decision-makers. Take the example our show Jamai No. 1 where the female characters are strong, independent, and pivotal to the storyline. Each of these women showcases strength in different ways—whether through leadership, resilience, or unwavering principles,” he says.

He adds, “Women today are strong, capable, and independent. They are excelling in every field, from business and politics to sports and entertainment. They are leaders, innovators, and changemakers. Audiences connect with stories that feel real, and seeing strong female characters on screen can inspire and empower women in real life as well.”

He credits social media for this change. “Social media has given women an incredible platform to express themselves, build their careers, and connect with people across the world. It has opened up opportunities like never before, allowing female influencers to showcase their talents, share their expertise, and inspire millions. Today, women are leading conversations in various fields—whether it’s fashion, fitness, business, education, or activism.”

As for the inspiring women in his life, he says, “My mom and sister inspire me the most. My mom has always been my biggest support, teaching me strength and kindness. My sister is independent and fearless, and I admire how she handles everything with confidence.”
