IPL 2025 Suspended amid Indo-Pak tension - Reports

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been put on hold indefinitely following the abrupt suspension of the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala on May 8. The game was halted after 10.1 overs due to air raid warnings issued in nearby cities, including Jammu and Pathankot.

The rising tensions between India and Pakistan have directly impacted the tournament, with security concerns raised by both domestic and international players. A special meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was convened soon after the incident. While no final announcement has been made on the league's fate, the developments have cast uncertainty over the remaining fixtures.

BCCI officials are currently waiting for directives from central authorities. IPL chairman Arun Dhumal told reporters that a decision on continuation would be taken in accordance with government advisories. Meanwhile, the match scheduled for May 9 between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru remains on the calendar for now.

Logistics have also been severely impacted. With flight operations restricted across North India, the BCCI has planned alternate transportation. Players and staff from Dharamsala will travel to Pathankot by road, and from there, a special train has been arranged to assist in relocation efforts.

There is concern among several international players, many of whom have conveyed their unwillingness to continue under the current circumstances. Discussions within teams and franchises are ongoing, and officials are taking inputs from various stakeholders before proceeding.

A source familiar with the matter said that the league must align itself with the nation’s broader interests. “The safety of all involved is non-negotiable. Cricket must take a step back when national security is in question,” the source added.

With no official word yet on rescheduling or cancellation of remaining matches, the future of IPL 2025 now hangs in the balance. The situation continues to evolve, with further updates expected after the BCCI’s internal consultations conclude.
