How has the acting journey been?
We all feel we are going to be next Amitabh Bachchan when we come to Mumbai. I also happen to share name with his daughter-in-law (laughs!). But then reality struck and I faced rejection. What came naturally to me after modeling was anchoring. I started anchoring and then auditions for Saas Bina Sasural happened and they liked me in the first go. In blink of an eye , I had the role!
Toasty is a very lovable character. Do you relate to her?
Initially it was only 10% and that to just the physical aspect because I play her. As time passed , I began to relate to her and understand her. It is now 60-40. I am trying to incorporate her positive traits in myself. She is so optimistic and positive.
Initially you were pretty much the only woman on the sets and now there are a couple of women. How have the dynamics changed?
Initially lets say for a week it was weird. I take time to open up to a man and it was slightly awkward. But they pampered me a lot. They pretty much treat me like a guy. If we have an intimate scene to do Ravi Dubey says " It is you ! No problem". With women on the sets it is fun as well. There are no cat fights for space or vanity van. We get along so well!
There have been rumors of you not getting along with Srman Jain. Is there any truth in it?
The only fight I have had with him is over a maggi. I'm like Joey of F.R.I.E.N.D.S and I hate sharing food. Some one leaked that and it snow balled into something completely different. I am extremely fond of him and have a lot of respect for him. I once mentioned that we share a love hate relationship and people took that literally.
Who is your favorite co-star on the sets?
Rohini Banerjee! She is fun and we get along really well.
You have been playing the character of Toasty for a really long time. Does it tend to get frustrating?
Of course! It tends to get monotonous at times. We play the same character day in and day out. We tend to get upset with the character and there are mood swings. But, then these fans come along and they appreciative your work and you feel so rewarded. It get you to think that are 20 million people who would want to be in your shoes.
Where can fans meet you?
I'm a coffee person and a movie buff. So, you are most likely to bump in to me in some coffee shop or the nearest Cinemax.
What is your off day like?
All I do is sleep and watch movies. I hate shopping. It is just so much work.
A trait if yours that you would want to change?
I'm very short tempered. I can't stand fools. God gave us common sense but people dont apply it to their regular lives.
You have been in a steady relationship for a long time now. Is marriage on the cards?
Not right now. We are both trying to find our ground, so marriage will have to wait.
What is your message for the fans on India-Forums?
These guys have been absolutely lovely and supportive. I do however would like to tell the kids to find a balance between TV viewing and studies. Life is all about working hard and I wish them well.
