Sarkar Raj, a sequel to the critically acclaimed Sarkar, is doing phenomenally well at the box office across the country. Sarkar Raj was premiered at the prestigious IIFA World Premiere, a part of the IIFA Weekend festivities in Bangkok, and received a tremendous response from global audiences as well. The movie collected Rs. 32 Crores all India & Overseas Rs 7 Crores in first week alone. The entire cost of the film was recovered in the first four days. The highest number of shows ever played per day in Multiplexes goes to Sarkar Raj. For example, Cinemax Versova, Mumbai played 23 shows in a day. The impact of the film worldwide has been phenomenal. In a landmark event, the three superstars of Sarkar Raj; the Indian Cinema icons, Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan along with director Ram Gopal Varma traveled to Hyderabad for the second leg of the Idea Yatra for Sarkar Raj to reach out to their fans, who have loved and appreciated the film, on June 15th 2008. The fans gathered in massive numbers to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars.

More than 50,000 fans laid siege to the PVR Multiplex, Central Mall, Punjagatta and police battalions had to be called to manage the frenzied fans. The sheer hysteria created was a validation of the power that the first family of Indian Cinema exuberates and the success of Sarkar Raj could be felt by all.

The inclement weather conditions in Mumbai restricted the Bachchans’ travel to Indore and Lucknow, where the Yatra was supposed to pit stop before hitting the Andhra Capital. The Bachchans have promised to make a trip to Indore and Lucknow to meet their fans soon. Fans had accumulated huge numbers at the Indore and Lucknow as well and chose to stay back in the hope of seeing the stars despite being told of the last minute cancellation. The enigma of the Bachchans is such that people not only from Indore and Lucknow but also from neighboring cities came down especially to see the three Bachchans live in action. One girl at Indore even broke down when she heard that her heartthrob Abhishek Bachchan won’t be able to make it, another strong validation of the draw that the Bachchan family commands.

The Yatra was announced in Mumbai and traveled to Delhi, its first destination, on June 2nd 2008.
