I will probably Commit Suicide if I’m Unable to Act, says Naseeruddin Shah

Naseeruddin Shah has set an example in the industry with his work. He has successfully delivered impressive performances across theatre, cinema to digital platforms as well. Spanning a career of more than 40 years, Shah has acted in critically acclaimed films like  Nishant, Aakrosh, Sparsh, Mirch Masala, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai, Trikal, Bhavni Bhavai, Junoon, Mandi, Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho!, Ardh Satya, Katha, and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro.

However, the actor still believes that he has "something to give" to the audience. "I think it is the suspicion that I still have function left to fulfil, I am not done yet as an actor. I still have something to give (to the audience) and I am lucky that people still want to watch me. I am lucky, and also the fact that I love my work, I love acting. There is something about performing. I can't explain the excitement, and I haven't got over it.”

The 70-year-old actor states that if one day he feels that he is unable to act he will probably suicide.  "I think I am obsessed with acting. I think when I wake up tomorrow morning if I am unable to perform, I probably will commit suicide. What is there in life without it?" Shah told IANS.

When asked if the politics of an on-screen character matters to him, the actor says: “It is not always the character but what the intention behind telling the story is that matters the most."

Naseeruddin has also explored the art of direction as well. He has directed plays written by Lavender Kumar, Ismat Chughtai and Saadat Hasan Manto.
