I choose to ignore negative & embrace the positive feedback: Siddhartha Vankar of Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin

One of the major departments that works endlessly towards making any show successful is the Creative Direction department. Siddharth Vankar is the Creative Director of Star Plus’ popular show ‘Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin’. While the show has received a lot of love and popularity, the fans have also been quite vocal about a few tracks and pointed out fiercely to the makers.

India Forums got in touch with Siddhartha and asked him a few interesting questions about working behind the lens for a popular show like ‘Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin’. Read on the interview below.

Is it difficult to keep the story of TV shows fresh after a year or two?

So, post a certain number of episodes, a general fatigue comes in the story. The tracks become less dynamic and characters have had a journey… In situations like these, a leap works. It gives us an opportunity to change everything and shuffle things and turn it on its head. It helps us add a lot of freshness in the story.

Does audience’s opinion and discussions on social media impact the story of the shows?

I try and read everything possible and specially if it’s constructive and positive. I wouldn’t say it impacts us while making the show but it’s great food for thought. Sometimes, these discussions have helped us realise certain points we had missed or overlooked.

Do you find it difficult to stay a story while the viewers oppose the twists?

I personally feel that the twists in the drama always work. There are pros and cons of everything and hence there will be some people who will love the story and some will not be okay with it. But as makers, we know the larger arcs ahead and we know when the story unfolds which will lead to people eventually loving it.

Does online trolling affect you personally?

Initially it really did… I won’t lie. But over the period of time, I take it with a pinch of salt. There have been many incidents when my parents, my wife and even so my daughter were called names and abused on social media. But I choose to ignore the negative and embrace the positive feedback and positive criticism that comes our way.
