Whenever one feels the rate at which crimes take place and that a heinous one like rape - is finally getting lesser, a shocking story pops up that shakes one up right to the core. The country was in for such another shock recently when reports of such a case of physical abuse, harassment and rape surfaced online. The victim, a 20-year-old woman from Delhi was abused, beaten and then raped by neighbours, which included men, women and children. Authorities believe this to be a case of revenge after the woman’s admirer committed suicide having faced rejection.

Actors Huma Qureshi and Avantika Dassani, who are currently promoting their upcoming web show Mithya took a moment to condemn the same and express their views in an interview with ETimes.

Qureshi said, “Regardless of which country we’re in, it's a matter of shame that we don't give our women our young girls an environment of safety. Especially in a country like India where we worship the female form, in the form of Kali, Durga, Maa Saraswati and Lakshmi. I think it's quite shameful that in our country, with all our traditions, we are often exposed to incidents which break our heart and shatter our mind, when brutality is unleashed upon women. I feel very strongly about it. I feel this is something we must not tolerate or allow in society. We have to take steps, whatever they need to be, in our education system, in our homes, in our colleges or in the public sphere, so that we may stop this. This cannot be allowed, it cannot be tolerated. And any society, any country should be ashamed; if they can't provide basic safety and security towards women.”

On her part, Dassani added, A heinous crime is just that. There can be no allowance or reason for it. Tomorrow, if someone is robbed or murdered you're not going to blame the victim in any way saying, ‘What was he wearing or what was she wearing or she shouldn't have unlocked the door’.

How can such crimes be in any form a fault of the victim? But when that happens, when they blame the victim, it really upsets me a lot. I've read some ridiculous things like the crime happened because someone was eating something or they used their phones or just something absurd as that. To me, it's rape and it’s a crime. There's nobody else to be blamed for that.”

Netizens and everyone in general have been expressing their rage towards the entire saga.
