He's one of the closest people in my life right now: Bhumi Pednekar on Rajkummar Rao

Bhumi Pednekar is an outspoken and proud advocate for issues like inclusivity, freedom, and acceptance. That's why she instantly identified with her Badhaai Do character Sumi, a woman who chooses a lavender marriage to navigate society while being homosexual. Bhumi discusses everything she loves about Badhaai Do, as well as her newfound friendship and admiration for co-star Rajkummar Rao, in an interview with the ETimes.

When the actress was questioned about her character in Badhaai Do and also about her biggest takeaway from the character the Toilet Ek Prem Katha actress said,

"I was extremely fortunate to be given the role of 'Sumi.' She's so vulnerable, headstrong, and fiery that she's lived her entire life with claustrophobia, but she's survived it. So I admired her tenacity in the face of adversity. I think she's funny and witty, she keeps Shardul (Rajkummar Rao's character) in his place, she really gives back to Raj, and I feel like our relationship is like Tom and Jerry in the movie, so it's refreshing."

The actress further revealed her bond with her co-actor Rajkummar Rao saying,

"I believe our chemistry in Badhaai Do is strong because Sumi and Shardul were written in that manner. Raj has grown into one of my closest friends. We've done two films together, and I'm grateful that 'Badhaai Do' was the first one because I'm not sure if it was Sumi and Shardul's chemistry that translated into me and Raj being such good friends, or if it was Raj and I becoming such good friends that translated into the chemistry between our characters. He's a fantastic co-star, a fantastic human being, and one of the people I'm closest to right now. Badhaai Do was a truly unique film."

Bhumi Pednekar and Rajkummar’s Badhaai Do was released in the theaters today and have fans have been praising the duo from all quarters.
