Has the Papon Sexual Misconduct Controversy opened a CAN of WORMS?
Or will this be another 'unspoken instance' that gets buried sooner rather than later..

It is never a pleasant thing to have a trend like that of sexual misconduct going on, where one instance after the other not only keeps getting more gruesome, but also appalling.
The reason I say the above, is how the past few months have seen an array of cases, where elite public figures have either been accused of it or even caught doing so.
Indian entertainment industry had it's first 'actual' encounter in the form of celebrated singer, Papon aka Angarag Mahanta forcibly kissing a child on her lips after smearing her face with colour.
Just in case, you need a refresh of memory-

Many have had their opinions about the saga and while, you may have yours too, I cannot help but wonder if this has opened a can of worms!
The Infamous Trend

Brett Ratner, Harvey Weinstein and the most shocking of em'all, Kevin Spacey. Hollywood has seen some of the most respected (well, okay, not everyone) getting exposed one after the other and amongst them, the one involving Spacey was as I said above, the most shocking one indeed. But, the can of worms was opened wide, where multiple celebrities came under the scanner and were unmasked. The result? Almost everyone is either jobless or replaced. Rightly so.
This is not EXACTLY the first time in India

A few cases have come to notice and plenty have been ignored, but the one caught the most eyeballs was that of Arunabh Kumar, the former CEO of The Viral Fever (TVF). Expanding over a number of months, the case lasted to an extent, where Arunabh stepped down as the CEO of the company. This case was starkly similar to that of Jeffrey Tambor, who quit the show, Transparent following sexual allegations.
Papon's expose is one-of-a-kind

Okay, I don't want to jump the line and call the occurrence an extreme case of sexual misconduct, but nothing, and I repeat NOTHING justifies his smearing and forced kiss on the kid's lips. Many have had the debate of how it was fatherly love and several parents plant a peck on their little ones.
Agreed. But, a kid who considers you to be a mentor and a teacher, was in no way anticipating to be pulled and be at the receiving end of a kiss on the lips. And my answer to those who had this debate is a simple one- Did you forget about how we continue to preach that a kid should be taught all the right and wrong touches that he/she is at the receiving end of from parents, peers and strangers. I can certainly vouch for one thing that no kid would have been taught that 'its okay to be kissed on the lips by your teacher.'
What made things worse? This-

The little one is TAUGHT to 'clarify' the accusations and just like an innocent mind, she is uttering what she is instructed to.
Again, the term of 'sexual misconduct' may or may not be an exaggerated one, but this behavior has no real justification per se. The little ones are tortured and manipulated enough in the reality show mentally, and the last thing they would have needed is a physical instance.
Has this indeed opened a Can Of Worms?
While, the Arunabh saga was as delicate in its nature as this one (probably, worse); as this happened on television as a medium and on-record, it certainly seems that the can of worms has been opened.
We keep iterating how the entertainment industry is not as unforgiving as it seems to many and it is true. However, just like in all the facets of our daily life, there are good people and there are bad people.
It is imperative that we get educated and educate others about such happenings and people in general too.
Such things will not be tolerated and as we know, there is always an apt treatment for worms!
