Janhvi Kapoor and Sahil Mehta

The film Good Luck Jerry starring Janhvi Kapoor, Sushant Singh, Deepak Dobriyal, Sahil Mehta and others has been streaming on Disney Hotstar from 29th July and has garnered a lot of appreciation from the audiences.

Actor Sahil Mehta who played the role of Jigar in the film got in touch with India Forums and talked about his experience, bond with co-stars and other things.

Q. How does it feel to play a significant role where you have been there on screen for a good amount of time which is also dominated by actors like Janhvi Deepak or Sushant?

It feels great and I am truly grateful for the opportunities I have been getting. This is what I crave. I mean, it’s such a pleasure working with actors like Deepak Sir, Janhvi, Sushant Sir, Jaswant bhai, and others. I think it is always great to be present in such a space working amongst such great actors and learning from them.

Q. How has the actor within you evolved with this character?

I believe in every part you do, as an actor, you get to explore some different sides of yourself as a human being. I believe that’s a beautiful byproduct of this profession. I was here to learn, and I am still learning and hopefully will continue doing that.

Q. The role you did in GoodLuck was a comic character, so do you feel comedy as a genre is challenging to pull off because you have the responsibility to make people laugh?

To be very honest, humour comes naturally to me. I just need to understand the context and make the character mine. Also, the kind of people you work with really adds to it. I have been grateful to be working with such great filmmakers and actors. But it is never a one-man show. Sabke saath se hi hota hai.

Q. Your experience on sets with all the co-stars?

Family. That is the term I would like to name the experience as. I went there just as an ordinary actor. I came back making some beautiful bonds. Janvhi, Deepak Sir, Samta, Sandeep, Mohan Sir, Siddharth Sir, and everyone has been so kind and nice to me.

Especially, I would like to mention my co-actor Jaswant Bhai, who plays Timmy in the film. He was been just there right beside me since the beginning of the film. Always supporting and loving me like his own brother. Whenever I need, I call him straight, “Paajhi yaaaar ye ho gaya”. I think that’s the most beautiful thing one could achieve in life. Also, he is such a great actor to work with. He is just brilliant at what he does. I can assure every filmmaker working with him, would be in awe of his performance always.

Q. Your first reaction when you heard the script..

I was literally cracking up during the first reading, especially on Jigar’s lines. I was like, this is making me laugh while I read and I could just not imagine what would be the audience’s reaction to seeing the lovely visuals.

Q. Have you seen the original film? Did you take any references from that ?

Not at all. I intentionally did not do it, because, once I see something, I somehow have visuals stuck right there at the back of my mind, and then it doesn’t let me do new stuff which I never wanted. I always try to bring something fresh and novel to the table. Maybe now I would like to give it a try watching Kolamavu Kokila but am a bit occupied watching Good Luck Jerry again and again on Disney Plus Hotstar these days :)

Q. Can you tell us about your future projects?

I have another film releasing this 11th August, Raksha Bandhan, produced and directed by Mr. Aanand L Rai. And post that, I will be starting with something very interesting, which I can’t disclose as of now.

Good Luck Jerry has received rave reviews and is riding high on its success. Talking about Sahil's next film Rakshabandhan, it will also star Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar in key roles.
