Giorgio Moroder can't wait to feel India's energy

Hailed as one of the pioneers of disco and electronic music, the Grammy Award-winning Italian record producer, songwriter and DJ Giorgio Moroder is heading to India this weekend and he is excited to perform here.

Moroder, who will be performing live at Johnnie Walker The Journey 2015 on Saturday at Mehboob Studio here says he is "glad" to finally make it to India.

"I'm glad I'm finally making it to India for Johnnie Walker The Journey. It is going to be very exciting. I've played some great sets on my travels... can't wait to feel the energy India has to offer," Moroder told IANS.

The 74-year-old music veteran is known for composing classic film scores for "Scarface" and "Midnight Express", as well as soundtracks like "Take my breath away" ("Top Gun"), Irene Cara's "Flashdance", Blondie's "Call me" ("American Gigolo"), as well as compositions on films such as "The NeverEnding Story", "Superman III", "Rambo III" and "Beverly Hills Cop II".

Asked if he would like to work with a particular director for another soundtrack, Moroder said: "Well, I would like to work with every good director... Since it's becoming more and more important for composers. But if I get a big movie, I'll be happy to do it."

Moroder made a comeback after a two-decade long hiatus as a guest collaborator on popular French electronic band Daft Punk's Grammy-winning 2013 album "Random Access Memories" and released a studio album, his first in 23 years, entitled "Dj  Vu" earlier this year.

"Dj  Vu" featured an ensemble cast of collaborators including Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Charli XCX and Sia.

Who is next on his list of collaborators?

"There are several. I started to make a remix with Lady Gaga. She's a great artiste. I know Rihanna is a great artiste too. So many today that I'm going to write for," he replied.

He says that his setlist for his maiden show here would consist of his older and newer compositions.

"I have about 45 to 50 songs of which about 25 are my older songs, some which I composed in the last 10 years and some songs which I did from the album of 'Dj  Vu' and some EDM songs by David Guetta and Avicii," he said.
