Indian television has a long-standing love affair with dukh bhari daastans. Just when you think your favourite jodi is finally going to unite, a tragic twist, a leap, or worse, a sudden character death. But what if things were different? What if there was an alternative universe where these iconic couples weren’t torn apart by destiny or misfortune? What if the couples were given the happiness they truly deserved? What if love triumphed over misunderstandings? What if instead of tragic twists, their stories were wrapped up with the happiness and love they truly deserved?
From Abhimanyu- Akshara to Sai-Virat, here’s a look at how some popular Indian TV shows could have ended if the focus was on happy reunions instead of dramatic turns.
Akshara-Abhimanyu (Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai) – A love that never got peace

From intense chemistry to equally intense takkar, Akshara and Abhimanyu’s love story had it all — except peace. Fans rooted for them through miscarriages, miscommunications, and heartbreaks. But what if they had simply talked things out?
Alternate happy ending:
Akshara and Abhi move to a new city post-Abhir’s surgery, away from toxic family drama. Akshara opens a music academy, Abhimanyu returns to being the passionate surgeon, and they raise Abhir together, along with their newborn — no courtroom battles, no custody fights, just healing and growth.
Sai-Virat (Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin) – The 'What Could Have Been' Couple

Their journey began with a deal marriage, but Sai and Virat grew into each other. Sadly, ego clashes and Pakhi’s constant interference never let them breathe. Fans still ache over how Sairat never got a fair shot.
Alternate happy ending:
Post-Savi’s birth, Virat finally stands up for Sai, cuts all ties with Pakhi, and gives his marriage the respect it deserves. They move to a peaceful home, away from the Chavan Niwas toxicity, and raise both kids with love and laughter. Pakhi finds her own identity, and peace prevails.
Naira-Kartik (Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai) – A tragedy fans still aren’t over

While Kaira did get beautiful moments, Naira’s untimely death still stings. Why couldn’t this power couple just get a forever?
Alternate happy ending:
No accident, no cliff fall. Kaira moves abroad for a fresh start, Naira becomes a dance instructor, Kartik sets up his own business, and they live a simple, love-filled life with Kairav and Akshara. Occasional Goenka drama, but nothing that their rock-solid bond can’t handle.
Maya (Beyhadh):

Maya’s character was one of the most complex ever seen on Indian television — a woman battling her inner demons and external betrayals. But instead of healing, her journey ended in tragedy and death after a series of violent twists.
Alternate happy ending:
After serving her sentence, Maya chooses to let Arjun and Saanjh be together. She returns to her life with a new purpose—dressed once again in her signature white, she re-builds her own business empire and embraces her role as a strong, independent boss lady. While focusing on her career, she also maintains a cordial friendship with Arjun and Saanjh, choosing peace over the past.
Why we crave alternate endings
Because these shows don’t just entertain — they emotionally invest us. We celebrate their highs, mourn their lows, and sometimes, we just want our favorite characters to get a break. Happy endings don’t mean the story stops being interesting — it just becomes satisfying.
While TRPs may focus on drama, fans simply wish to see their favorite couples get the happy endings they deserve. We've often seen fans hoping for that perfect closure, even if they didn't want the show to end.
This is just our little daydream, but now it’s your turn to share!
