Filmmaker Hansal Mehta weds longtime partner Safeena Husain in an impromptu wedding

Bollywood filmmaker Hansal Mehta gets married to long time partner Safeena Husain in an intimate wedding in California.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta is now married to his 17-year partner, social worker Safeena Husain. On Wednesday morning, the director took to social media to share the good news, as well as photos from the wedding ceremony, in which the couple can be seen signing the wedding documents and hugging each other. Safeena is the founder of Educate Girls, a non-profit organisation. She is the late actor Yusuf Hussain's daughter. The wedding was held in San Francisco, California, in an intimate ceremony attended by family and friends.

Mehta wrote on social media about the wedding, "So after 17 years, two children, watching our two sons grow up, and chasing our respective dreams, we decided to get hitched." This marriage, like so many others, was impromptu and unplanned. Ultimately, love triumphs over all. And it has..." Mehta wore a casual T-shirt with a brown blazer in the wedding photos, while Safeena wore a pink salwar suit. 

Filmmakers Vishal Bhardwaj and Anubhav Sinha, actors Rajkummar Rao and Manoj Bajpayee, and his fans sent their best wishes. Scam 92 celebrity Anubhav Sinhacommented, "Je Baat!!" (This is how it should be). Vishal Bhardwaj also congratulated the couple as he commented “Mubarakaan.” "Awww," said Huma Qureshi. 

Rajkummar Rao, who has worked with Hansal in films such as Shahid, Citylights, and Omerta, congratulated the couple on an Instagram story he wrote," And Finally you two are officially married. Congratulations @hansalmehta sir and #safeena ma’am. The coolest couple ever. I love you both. Now come back soon and celebrate 

The filmmaker is currently working on several projects at the same time. On Tuesday, he revealed that the central role in 'Scam 2003: The Telgi Story' had been cast, with veteran theatre artist Gagan Dev Riar taking on the role of Abdul Karim Telgi. He is also working on Scoop, a Netflix series, and Captain India, a feature film starring Kartik Aaryan. He also co-directed the action thriller Faraaz with his son Jai Mehta and is also working on a project with Kareena Kapoor Khan.
