Emraan Hashmi recalls the moment when his entire world flipped due to his son

Emraan Hashmi recently made a candid revelation about his son's cancer diagnosis which painted a poignant picture of a life-altering experience compressed into a mere half-day. The actor, known for his roles in Bollywood thrillers, shared the raw emotion of that day, a day that forever shifted his perspective.

He recounted the events of the day when the family had gone out for brunch at Taj Lands End. He said, “My son fell ill in January 2014. It was a shock we were completely unprepared for. My life changed in a single afternoon. On January 13, we had gone for brunch at Taj Lands End and were eating pizza when the first symptom appeared at the table. He had excused himself and passed blood in his urine—that was the first sign."

What began as a happy outing quickly took a turn. “What began as a joyful, happy brunch turned into something completely different. Within three hours, we were at a doctor’s clinic, and the doctors told us that our son had cancer. They said he needed to undergo surgery the next day, followed by chemotherapy,” he said.

Hashmi described the moment as completely overwhelming. “My entire world flipped in a matter of 12 hours. Until then, neither I nor anyone in the family had seen any symptoms. That’s what upheaval looks like. At the time, he was just three years and eleven months old. It was the kind of cancer that typically affects children under the age of four," and it struck him just one month before his fourth birthday," said the actor.

Emraan Hashmi's son, Ayaan, was diagnosed with cancer at the age of three in 2014. After a five-year battle, Ayaan recovered in 2019. During this period, Emraan stepped away from his acting career to dedicate himself to his son's care. He is now set to return to the screen in the upcoming film "Ground Zero."
