Double Trouble!

There are some actors who act in one movie per year and there who showcase their talent in multiple movies per year. Then there are those who in one movie but in a double role. Same face, same body, same person enacting but different characters on-screen. BollyCurry brings to you some of those actors who have portrayed more than one character in a movie. 


Starting from the earlier days is Amitabh Bachchan who acted in Don as Don and Vijay. While Vijay was the easy going, cheerful man, Don was the ultimate gangster who made not just the Indian police but also the police forces of eleven other countries be on a look out for him, hence the very famous dialogue "Don ko pakarna mushkil hee nahin, namumkin hai". Indeed, his roles as the simpleton and the dreaded villain proves to the audiences that this legend can act!


Seeta aur Geeta is the evergreen, superhit comedy movie by Ramesh Sippy. But what blows the minds of the audience is the stellar performance by Hema Malini as Seeta and Geeta, twin sisters separated at birth and as different as chalk and cheese. Seeta, as her name suggests, is a simple, pleasant girl heavily mistreated by her cruel aunt, while Geeta is brought up in a poor neighbourhood and has major anger issues. A comedy of error ensues as the twins end up switching places and leading each other's lives!


A mess and confusion of a love story was Duplicate which released in 1998 starring Shah Rukh Khan as Bablu and Manu. Bablu is a bubbly guy who is an aspiring chef deeply in love with Sonia, played by Juhi Chawla. On the other hand is Manu who is a criminal escaped from jail to take revenge on his partners for betraying him. After the final showdown, Manu is killed by his girlfriend, Lily, played by Sonali Bendre, while Bablu lives. Shah Rukh Khan was also seen playing a double role in Don 2.


Judwaa, as the name signifies, is a movie in which Salman Khan acted as the loud Raja as well as the calm Prem. Raja was raised in the slums while Prem was brought up by their parents in the United States. Separated at birth, the twin brothers would do exactly the same thing side-by-side. So, if Raja raised his hand, then randomly at the other end of the world, Prem would be raising his hand as well without any reason. This one trait, made the two brothers very unique from the others.


Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi was a 2001 movie by Rahul Rawail. Playing a double role in this movie was Kajol Devgn as two estranged twins, Tina and Sweety. Without the knowledge of their mother in the movie, Sweety is given to the father played by Rishi Kapoor while the compassionate and down-to-earth Tina grows up with her mother after their parents' separation. Destiny makes the two sisters meet and they work to unite their parents at the end. Kajol also briefly played a double role in Dushman.


While talking about actors in a double role, how can one forget the breakthrough debut of Deepika Padukone in Om Shanti Om, which did wonders for her career. Playing the double role of Shanti Priya as well as Sandy was what captured the interest of the audience. Before the interval, Shanti Priya had mesmerized the audience with her beauty and after the intermission, audience were hypnotized by the efforts of Sandy. Deepika was also seen in a double role in Chandni Chowk to China.


Taking the cake away is Priyanka Chopra who played not one, not two but twelve different characters in the movie, What's your Rashee?, as Anjali, Sanjana, Kajal, Hansa, Rajni, Chandrika, Mallika, Nandini, Pooja, Vishakha, Bhavna and Jhankhana. Ranging from jolly, cheerful, traditional characters to a character who is modern, technically savvy and very mature were the roles that Priyanka played leaving the audience stunned!
