Actress Megha Ray, who has impressed audiences with her impactful performances in Apna Time Bhi Aayega and Dil Ye Ziddi Hai, is currently seen playing the lead role of Divya, also known as Swarna Mohini, in the television show Divya Prem. The show marks a refreshing departure from traditional portrayals of women on Indian television, as it introduces a superhero with supernatural powers who is also deeply emotional and empathetic.
Talking about how it feels to portray such a strong and layered character, Megha shares, “It is empowering. Swarna Mohini isn’t just a character with superpowers but also a woman who embodies emotional resilience and inner strength. She represents both vulnerability and might. Playing her allows me to explore that beautiful balance where compassion itself becomes a kind of superpower. And of course, the child in me is living her dream of being a superhero.”
Over the years, television has seen a gradual but powerful shift in how women are represented. Gone are the days when female leads were confined to being victims of circumstance. Today, they are shown as fighters, leaders, and decision-makers. Speaking about this evolution, Megha says, “It gives hope. Young girls today are growing up seeing women who don’t just endure but rise and fight for what’s right. That representation matters deeply because it shapes how they see themselves. When they see Divya standing her ground, they know that strength can be graceful too.”
Reflecting on how modern female leads are redefining the idea of strength, Megha beautifully adds, “Strength isn’t about being emotionless — it’s about staying kind even when it’s easier to be cold, and about standing tall without losing empathy. Modern female leads are showing that you can be powerful without being hard, and sensitive without being weak.”
