Did Shah Rukh Khan, Rohit Shetty's friendship go kaput after debacle of Dilwale? Filmmaker responds

Shah Rukh Khan fans believe that Chennai Express is one of his best masala entertainers. However, after the debacle of Dilwale, Rohit Shetty and he have not come together for a project. There were reports of how their friendship ended on a sour note. In an interview with Komal Nahta on his podcast, Game Changers, Rohit Shetty said that these talks of a fall-out are untrue. He was quoted as saying, “Nahi aisa kuch nahi.”

The movie made Rs 377 crore in its lifetime in India. It made more than Rs 200 crore in India and close to Rs 171 crores abroad. However, it was still declared as one of Shah Rukh Khan’s under-performing films.

He said that there is deep mutual respect between Shah Rukh Khan and him. He also said after Dilwale, he got busy in setting up his own production house. Rohit Shetty said he decided he would produce his own films. So, even if they tank, the losses would be borne only by them, and no one else would suffer. He reiterated that Dilwale was not a loss-making film. The movie that also starred Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon was produced by Red Chillies Entertainment.

Ek respect hai humare beech me aur Dilwale ke baad ye hua ki immediately phir humne humare khud ki production house kholi. Humne decide kiya ki hum khud ki filmein banayenge. Agar loss bhi ho to humara ho, jabki loss nahi hua tha.

Actually, it was said that Rohit Shetty had then blamed Shah Rukh Khan’s intolerant comment for negative press around the movie. On the other hand, he felt that Rohit Shetty did not deliver what was expected from him. He also told Nahta that he is very close to Deepika Padukone. It seems she was four months pregnant when she filmed for Singham Again. He said she is like his family member.
