'Dhoom' & 'Dhoom 2' director Sanjay Gadhvi passes away due to heart attack

Coming in as a huge shock, director Sanjay Gadhvi has passed away. His daughter Sanjina Gadhvi shared the news with PTI. He was 56 and was about to turn 57 three days later. 

Sanjina told PTI, "He passed away at 9.30 am this morning at his residence. We are not sure what it is, but it is most likely a heart attack. He wasn't unwell, he was perfectly healthy." He is survived by his wife Gina and two daughters, with Sanjina being the elder one.

As known, he directed the iconic Dhoom and Dhoom 2 and most recently also directed the web show, Operation Parindey in 2020.

Abhishek Bachchan and Bipasha Basu have shared their condolences and remembered him on social media. 

Abhishek Bachchan, who has been a constant in all three Dhoom movies, took to Instagram to express his grief on the death of Gadhvi. He wrote, “I took this photo of Sanjay whilst we were filming the climax of Dhoom 2 in South Africa. We made 2 films together - Dhoom and Dhoom 2. Sanju, when I spoke to you last week and we were reminiscing about our shoots and memories I would never have imagined even in my craziest dreams that I would have to write a post like this.”

"I’m shocked beyond belief. You had faith in me, even when I didn’t. You gave me my first ever hit!!! I can never ever forget that or be able express what it meant to me. I will cherish your friendship always. Rest in peace my brother," he added.

Bipasha Basu, who featured in Dhoom 2, shared a picture of Gadhvi on Instagram Stories and wrote, “Rip my friend Om Shanti @sanjaygadhvi4 Gone too soon.”

Apart from the aforementioned projects, Gadhvi made his debut as a director with the film, Tere Liye in 2000 and also directed the Imran Khan-Minisha Laamba starrer, Kidnap.
