This Janmastami, actress Devleena Bhattacharjee, whose claim to fame is Star Plus' recently concluded Saath Nibhana Saathiya, has a special offering for Lord Krishna. The ardent Lord Krishna devotee made her singing debut and has recorded a bhajan (devotional song) for Lord Krishna.
We got in touch with Devoleena and sat her down for a small conversation.
Excerpts.
How did this album happen?
It was something that I wanted to present as a gift to Lord Kanha and also my fans, who have been messaging and requesting me to sing. I have been a Krishna devotee since childhood. And look at the coincidence, I played Gopi in the show and now I am recognised as Gopi. So, when my show wrapped up and I was also recovering from my surgery, I used to sit and practice my songs. One fine day, my mother walked in and asked me as to what I was doing on Janmashtami this year and this idea clicked.
What made you sing a bhajan specifically? Do you have any special connection with Lord Krishna?
I have literally grown up listening to stories and deeds that Lord Krishna was responsible for. Every night, my mother would tell me a bedtime story about Kanhaji and I strongly feel that me grabbing Saathiya and Gopi's character was his way of blessing me. So why not dedicate a bhajan to the Lord? Being an Indian, we are always taught that we should start a good deed by remembering the Lord. And, hence I thought, why don't I start my singing career with the name of Lord Krishna!
Would you be open to playback singing?
Why not?
I believe that music is the purest form of art. And one gets addicted to music as it tends to bring about a positive change in the energy around you. Apart from this, I also do not want to limit myself as I am a trained singer and definitely want to explore my options.
Who is your inspiration/ idol?
My mother. She has been my inspiration and has motivated me all the time. She was the one who introduced me to Lord Krishna . I believe that at every phase in life, you meet somebody who inspires you. I met Rashmi Ma'am and then there is everybody whom I met on Saath Nibhana Saathiya, who taught me something or the other. Even the dog on the sets Jugnu, taught me what companionship is! I believe that till we live, we learn and experience. I am thankful to all of my dance and music teachers.
What next on television for you?
I'll definitely make a comeback when I get a very strong role. I will not disappoint my fans and will be back soon.
We wish Devoleena all the best for this new venture!
