'Deool', 'Byari' named best feature films at 59th National Awards

New Delhi, March 7 (IANS) Marathi film "Deeol", about the dilemma of educated youth in villages, and Kannada movie "Byari", about Muslim girls trials and tribulations of in the Beary community, shared the best feature film award at the 59th National Awards announced here Wednesday.

"Byari" is the first film in the Beary language, spoken in coastal Kannada. It is about how girls in the small Muslim Beary community are mistreated in the name of marriage and divorce.

Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni has directed "Deool", while "Byari" is by director Suveran.
