Deepika: I would like to feel Safer and Protected at this point

Amidst the threats and controversies, Deepika Padukone wants to feel safe.

This month has been too harsh for actress Deepika Padukone as she has been receiving death threats from various Rajput organisations for portraying the character of Rani Padmini in her upcoming film 'Padmavati'.

From maiming Deepika to threatening by beheading her, Deepika has had it all and in a recent interview with Talking Movies: India Special for BBC World News, Deepika voiced her opinion on the controversy as a whole. This is what she expressed in her statement:

When asked the star whether she would like to have a better protection from the state, she said, "In an ideal world, yes. I think it is too soon to tell... But yes it would be nicer to feel safer or protected at this point".

Little did Deepika knew that her film would upset the Rajput organisation to such extent that they would want to vet out this period drama film featuring Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as the ruthless Alauddin Khilji.

After the official announcement from the makers regarding the release date which has been deferred from the original release date (December 1), the status of the release of the film has proven to be a toll for the makers and cast.

Stating her views on these controversies surrounding her film, Deepika said, "It is hurtful and it is sad. Cinema has the power to bring the people together, to unite people and to spread the love. It is disheartening sometimes that people don't recognize that".

Further, in her interaction, the Piku star also spoke about the gender dynamics of Indian cinema. She says, "Yes, I've seen that transition. In the kind of films being made, in the kind of films I'm being offered, in the roles that are being written, and with women behind the camera not just in front of the camera".

This episode starring Deepika Padukone will go on air on Saturday. Tell us what do you think of Deepika's comments?
