Damini K Shetty On ‘Shri Krishna’ Making A Comeback And Why Mythological Series Were Doing Well During The Lockdown Period

More than 20 years after it’s broadcast, Ramanand Sagar’s epic mythology series ‘Shri Krishna’ made a comeback on Doordarshan during the lockdown period, gaining record-breaking numbers and holding the top in TRP charts.

Actress Damini K Shetty, speaks to us about the comeback of the show and it’s TRP numbers. “It was the most unexpected thing to see 'Shri Krishna' coming back on television after so many years. It feels like a blessing from the divine for having done the show in the past like it has come back to help and give you your dues after so many years. We put our heart and soul even then and I think that's what’s paying us even today. It is a great feeling and to know it’s topping the TRP charts is amazing,” tells Damini. 

When asked why mythological series that have made a comeback during the lockdown period was doing so well, Damini says, “In times like these when everybody is stuck at home and disturbed mentally that's when they turn back to things that still remind them of the purity of life, of simplicity that once was. It also turns you to God, to spirituality as this is the time everyone is looking for a little support and miracles to happen. Mythological shows connect you to that.”  

She goes on to add, “As makers, we are often told that the past is gone, you need to move ahead, make your characters darker and move towards modernization but this goes on to show that people still are interested in things of the past.”
