Dakota Johnson to play Madame Web in Spider-Man spin-off

Hollywood actress Dakota Johnson is apparently ready to enter the world of Marvel. She could soon be suiting up to play her first superhero role as she is in talks to play Madame Web in Sony's upcoming Spider-Man spinoff.

The film will be centered around her character, who has previously appeared in the comics in the 1980s

As per The Hollywood Reporter, the 32-year-old actor might play the title character in Madame Web, the Sony spinoff centered on the Spider-Man character. S.J. Clarkson is set to direct the feature, which is part of Sony's growing stable of films based on Marvel characters.

The film is centered on Madame Web, a mutant with psychic sensory powers, making her able to predict the future of other superheroes in the universe.

Getting a female-driven place in Sony’s universe of Marvel characters has always been a top priority for studio brass given the long list of strong female characters that appear in these comics throughout the years.

In the comic books, Web is a blind, elderly woman who suffers from myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disorder that forces her to use a life support system. She guides others rather than risk her own life in conflict. Madame Web would also mark Johnson's first major franchise since Fifty Shades of Grey. 

In terms of Dakota Johnson's career, the actress, after becoming a massive sensation following the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, where she was paired alongside Jamie Dornan, went on to star in some major indie films. Johnson has recently been the talk of the town in the festival circuit for her performance in Am I OK? and Cha Cha Real Smooth, which have also been produced by her.
