Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna’s Chhaava is the big Bollywood release of Valentine’s Day 2025. The Laxman Utekar film is based on the life of Chhatrapathi Sambhaji who was the son of Shivaji Maharaj. It is about his battle with the Emperor of the Delhi Sultanate Aurangzeb who wanted to conquer the Deccan. Akshaye Khanna has got an unbelievable onscreen transformation for the role. The trailer of Chhaava got a mixed response from the audience. While many found Vicky Kaushal’s personality towering enough, others said that the Marathi accents of both Rashmika Mandanna and him were way below expectations. They also found the action sequence a bit too unrealistic.
The advance bookings have started for Chhaava. As expected, it is doing very well in Maharashtra. Chhatrapathi Sambhaji has a place of pride in Maratha history. Trade analyst Akshaye Rathi told us, “It is still too early to say. But going by the reactions to the trailer and traction, I can foresee a solid opening. I would be surprised if it is anything less than Rs 15crores. Also, it is Valentine’s Day a time when couples go for movies or enjoy some recreational activity together. There is good buzz for Chhaava and the advance bookings might lead to a higher figure.”

There are rumours that Chhaava has not picked up at all in the other markets besides Maharashtra. Rathi said that it is not true that it is a complete no-show in other parts of India. He said that Maharashtra is outperforming as the tale of Chhaava resonates with the land its people and emotions. He also gave the example of Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior starring Ajay Devgn. “It did excellently in Maharashtra as well as all over India. I see no reason why Chhaava should not click like that film,” he said. He further said it is not about other states ‘under-performing’ but “Maharashtra out-performing every other state”.
