Bhakti D Maniar, who has been seen in Date Gone Wrong 2 for Eros Now and Bhram for Zee5, recently broke her on-screen image by playing a lesbian character of Sonal. She recently got talking about how the same and how did she come around the role, among other things.
Talking about the role Bhakti says, "I played the character of Sonal, a lesbian who would get 'Hai Taubba' from society. But she didn't give a hoot about society. I resonated a lot with Sonal's bravery and the fighter attitude she had in her; she was a true stereotype breaker-"Kya farak padta hai ki log kya sochenge."My actions decide my happiness and like Sonal, I don't get influenced by society's comments."
Further, stating how she decided to take up the role, Bhakti says, "I had second thoughts at first, as the character was something beyond my comfort zone. But then I realized that I'm an actor and I have a lot of characters to explore in order to grow as an artist. Therefore I took the step ahead. Moreover, my family also supported me in the role. They not just appreciated it but also took pride in my work because it was brave of me according to them."
On being asked if she had any inhibition while doing bold scenes, Bhakti says, "I had some intimate moments with my partner and I was open to doing it because I really admired Sonal's character and as an actor, I believe in doing unbiased justice to the character. The actor in me was curious to explore her journey along with her intimacy. And the cherry on top was our Director Sangeita Rao, who made us extremely comfortable during the shoot."
Hai Taubba managed to receive quite the response from the fans with season 2 here already.
