Women, in television serials are, usually, projected as two extremes. They're either the perfect beti, biwi, bahu, saas.. or the other side of the spectrum, ie..the perfect, convincing vamp! Seldom, do lead actresses in such shows get to experiment. Juhi Parmar, aka Kumkum is one such lead actress who has been fortunate enough to have experimented with her looks and mannerisms..all in one show!
The first major 'different' role Juhi got to play..a role 'hatke' from her sari-clad dutiful bahu avatar was - Chanda, a Kumkum look-alike!

Chanda was a street smart dhhabewali..a fun-loving, bubbly young girl, with a heart of gold. With the promise of good medical treatment for her handicapped brother, Renuka (the vamp!) cons Chanda to replace and enact as Kumkum in Wadhwa house.Soon, Chanda realizes Renuka's evil intentions and helps Kumkum reunite with her family..in the process, meeting with her own ill-fated & untimely death. In Chanda's role, Juhi not only got another character to play..but she did it effectively & with great aplomb! Her split-second changes in expressions from Chanda to Kumkum & back..were a treat to watch! A role/character that Juhi & her fans will cherish for a very long time! Not to forget, with this track & character, Kumkum-Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan recorded its highest ever TRP's..surpassing primetime shows!

As the ideal bahu, Kumkum has always stood up against all odds, to fight for her family honour. Post-leap, Kumkum's vicious, power-hungry daughter-in-law threatened the very existence of the Wadhwa family, and successfully managed to force Kumkum to leave her own home. To avenge her family pride, Kumkum returned, albeit disguised as a housemaid, Santo! Clad in a ghaghra-choli with ghunghat covering half her face, and a Haryanvi accent..Juhi, once again proved she is an actress par excellence! The professional and hard-working actress, hired a tutor who would be present on the sets, to teach her the basic nuances of the Haryanvi dialect. The role/character proved to be a HIT with the viewers and once again the TRP's soared.

History has stood testimony to a wife's devotion for her husband. When Sumit gets arrested on molestation charges, Kumkum takes up the case and fights for her husband's honour & prestige. A 2nd year law student before marriage, Kumkum completes her course and is appointed as Sumit's lawyer. In order to get her mannerisms, attitude and pronounciations right, Juhi consulted the Bombay High Court lawyer Dr. U. A. Kohir. Dressed as a lawyer, minus heavy make-up, once again, Juhi proved to be one of the most hard-working actresses on television, who went all out to get the desired results. As for the track..needless to say, Kumkum won the case!

Different characterizations & experiments, coupled with various interesting twists & turns have been amongst the highlights of Kumkum-Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan. As for its lead protagonist, Juhi Parmar's hard work & dedication is an example of sorts..and there for everyone to see!
