AR Rahman's Daughter Trolled for Wearing Burqa, Gives Befitting Reply to Taslima Nasreen: Feminism isn’t Bashing other Women

Author Taslima Nasreen made a comment on Khatija Rahman's picture that blew up the whole 'burqa' debate all over again on the internet. Khatija gave it back to Nasreen in an Instagram as she slammed her for her comments...

Music maestro AR Rahman’s daughter, Khatija Rahman is often mired in controversies and trolled for wearing a burqa. The musician too was targeted by trolls for making her wear the burqa and had reacted to this last year by stating that that woman in his family had the freedom to dress the way they wanted.

The burqa spat seems to not rest as author Taslima Nasreen recently made a comment on Khatija’s picture that blew up the whole debate all over again on the internet. Sharing a picture of Rahman’s daughter, Nasreen wrote:  "I absolutely love A R Rahman's music. But whenever i see his dear daughter, i feel suffocated. It is really depressing to learn that even educated women in a cultural family can get brainwashed very easily!"

This turned fodder for trolls, who called out Khatija for donning a burqa, who later hit back at the trolls and at Taslima Nasreen for criticising her choices.

In an elaborate Instagram post, Khatija Rahman hit back at Nasreen by writing,

I’m sorry you feel suffocated by my attire. Please get some fresh air, cause I don’t feel suffocated rather I’m proud and empowered for what I stand for. I suggest you google up what true feminism means because it isn’t bashing other women down nor bringing their fathers into the issue. I also don’t recall sending my photos to you for your perusal.

She also added,

Wow, I’m quite startled. Every time this topic comes the fire in me rages and makes me want to say a lot of things..Over the last one year, I’ve found a different version of myself which I haven’t seen in so many years. I will not be weak or regret the choices I’ve made in life. I am happy and proud of what I do and thanks to those who have accepted me the way I am.

my two cents into this is, how come men don't cover themselves BY CHOICE, they could wear whatever they want, but not women. I Agree that she could wear what she wants, but doesn't seem right when we see little girls who can't even change their own diapers be covered before they could even get the CHOICE.
