This lockdown has given birth to a number of trends in several industries but if there is one that has managed to sustain well, then that is the reruns of mythological shows and the fact that they are clocking massive numbers. From Ramayan to Mahabharat, from new Mahabharat to Shri Krishna and many more, all these mythological shows have done really well. On that note, another popular mythological show, Shree Ganesh is all set to make a comeback after 21 long years. THe show was directed by Dheeraj Kumar and produced by wife, Zuby Kochhar.

In an interview with Times of India, Kumar opened up on the same where he said, Shows like ‘Ramayan’ and ‘Mahabharat’ have set a new benchmark in terms of the ratings. It goes to show that viewers are definitely willing to see mythological serials with substance. What works in the favour of the genre is a perfect storyline, screenplay, dialogue and the making. ‘Shree Ganesh’ may not be at par with new shows in terms of technology and the sets, but it’s the story that strikes a chord with the audience. The story is the soul of any show. People are lapping up the genre because they are finding it true and real. They are getting to see the stories they have heard from their parents and grandparents unfold on screen. ‘Shree Ganesh’ aired once a week in the morning at 7 am. We were apprehensive about airing it in the evening, but were convinced eventually that it would work. We saw a rise in the ratings within a couple of weeks. We did a lot of research, stuck to the scriptures and made the show with a lot of passion. We worked closely with the research scholars from various states of India. We spent almost two years on the research before Zuby and I decided to make a show.”

He also added on how he feels mythology connects generations as he said, "People are looking forward to watching mythological shows because they are understanding their depth and knowledge, which they want to pass on to their children. It enables family viewing and viewership isn’t just limited to small cities and towns. People living in metro cities are also watching these serials.”

Having already produced an array of shows like these earlier, Kumar said, “People must learn about our culture and heritage and I am glad that my team and I work on these shows with great devotion. We believe that mythology is here to stay because God is there from time immemorial. We may keep updating technology-wise, but the soul is going to remain the same. The intention is to learn and part with the knowledge that we have gained to the current generation and for generations to come.”
