Television and Bollywood actor Amit Varma who is seen in SAB TV's Badi Door Se Aye Hai treats acting as his hobby and not work. The actor believes that he is blessed to perform different characters on-screen and it is a bonus that he also gets paid for it!
In conversation with the Amit who has done television shows such as Saas Bina Sasural (Sony TV), Teri Meri Love Stories (Star Plus) and Bollywood films such as Kismat Konnection, Detective Naani and Singham Returns, we speak to him about his experience being a part of the Bolly and Telly industry.
It's been a while that you have not been seen on television...
Yes, it has been a very long time since I have not been seen on television. Initially, I had taken a break from TV to try my luck in films. But from a year and a half I've been open to television as I realized that one should never take a break from work.
I have not yet been offered something which I would like to do and the ones which I was inclined to take up did not materialize. But I will surely be back TV, it is just a matter of the right time and a good offer! I have shouldered about 4 shows and I'm feel humble that people still love me for my work.
You have been in this industry from a long time now. How do you see the growth of television over these years?
The industry has changed. Things are more professional now than before and ofcourse the competition is much higher between the channels.
What are your aspirations from the industry?
I have always shared a good rapport with Star Plus because I share a comfort level with them. But I am comfortable working with any channel till I have a substantial role to essay.
What keeps you busy these days?
For now, I am doing theater till the time something materializes for television shows or films.
What do you enjoy more - Television or theater?
Actually, theater helps one groom in all aspects. An actor cannot make a mistake as there are no re-takes. Television is more natural because we do not have to be loud in our actions to enhance the situation. So in my view, both the mediums are good. Theater opens me up as an actor and makes me more confident but I personally prefer television due to its wide connect with the masses.
