A tragic event unfolded recently on the Mangal Lakshmi set, raising serious safety concerns. Recently, Anupamaa made headlines due to an unfortunate incident where a crew member passed away from electrocution. Now, fresh reports reveal a similar distressing accident on Deepika Singh's show. Responding to this, AICWA has called for urgent measures to address the negligence that caused this incident, urging action against the makers of Mangal Lakshmi.
The tweet read, "On December 6, 2024, at a shooting set opposite the Mangal Lakshmi set in Goregaon Filmcity, a laborer working as an electrician suffered a severe electric shock, causing him to fall from a height. The worker sustained critical injuries and is currently admitted to the ICU in a hospital. Tragically, the worker’s family is being threatened not to speak out about the incident, with the warning that they will be denied financial support for his treatment."
"Shocking Cover-Up Attempts. For two days, efforts were made to suppress the incident, and immense pressure was put on the worker’s family to remain silent. Those responsible for exerting this pressure must be held accountable, and an FIR should be lodged against them. This deliberate cover-up is as reprehensible as the negligence that led to the accident."
"This appalling behavior highlights the grim reality of rampant negligence in Filmcity. Despite repeated accidents and injuries to workers, no concrete action has been taken to ensure their safety or hold those responsible accountable. It is high time the government intervened to put an end to this cycle of injustice."
"All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) demands an immediate and thorough investigation into this incident. We call upon the Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, to take decisive action by:
1.Ordering an independent inquiry into the incident.
2.Holding the serial’s producer, channel, and production house responsible for negligence.
3.Ensuring the injured worker’s medical expenses are fully covered.
4.Dismissing the Managing Director of Filmcity for gross mismanagement and failure to ensure safety standards.
5.Demanding the immediate resignation of the Labour Commissioner and Managing Director of Filmcity for negligence and repeated failures.
6.Filing FIRs against individuals and entities who attempted to pressure the worker’s family into silence and suppress the matter.
"This is not an isolated incident—Filmcity has witnessed numerous accidents, most of which are silenced under pressure. The lives of hardworking laborers cannot continue to be treated as expendable. Justice delayed is justice denied. We demand justice for the injured worker and a commitment to making Filmcity a safe workplace for all. The government must act now to restore accountability, enforce safety norms, and end the exploitation of laborers in the film industry," they concluded.
