Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has sparked controversy once again, this time over his comments regarding Ranbir Kapoor’s attendance at the Ram Mandir inauguration in Ayodhya. During a recent interview with Bollywood Thikana, the singer made an indirect remark that has caught the attention of fans and critics alike. “When Ram Mandir was inaugurated, a person who eats beef was invited, aur aap Gau Mata karahe hain,” Abhijeet said, leaving many to believe that the comment was aimed at Ranbir Kapoor.
The Pran Pratishtha ceremony of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya saw numerous Bollywood celebrities, including Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, and Ayushmann Khurrana. However, it was Abhijeet's comment that has ignited a fresh wave of debate. Kapoor, who has been embroiled in past controversies surrounding his statements about eating beef, found himself once again under scrutiny. In a 2011 television interview, Ranbir had mentioned his preference for beef, a comment that resurfaced in 2022 during the promotional campaign of his film Brahmastra. This led to protests from Bajrang Dal activists, who prevented him and his wife Alia Bhatt from entering the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, claiming his past remarks were offensive.
Abhijeet, known for his candid and often controversial opinions, didn’t stop there. He also reflected on his time in the industry, sharing his views on the 2013 film Besharam, in which he sang the track “Dil Ka Jo Haal Hai.” “Thank God, I am not a singer of this era. I sang a song, ‘Dil Ka Jo Haal Hai,’ in a super flop film. The song wasn’t a hit. No one knows about the song’s film. However, if you play the song, you would know who sang it,” he said.
He continued, “Even if the floppiest song plays, people would know whose song it is, and not the hero or film attached to it. The property belongs to the music company. They have the rights, and we don’t get royalty. However, everyone has ears and the voice that goes to the ear and heart is mine."
Directed by Abhinav Kashyap, Besharam starred Ranbir Kapoor alongside Pallavi Sharda, with Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor in supporting roles. Despite the star-studded cast, the film was a major box office failure and received largely negative reviews. Abhijeet didn’t hesitate to highlight the movie's downfall, criticizing the lack of success.
Abhijeet's bold remarks are bound to keep fans and critics debating, as his unfiltered opinions continue to stir controversy in the industry.
