Aamir Khan to Play a 'Rude, Insensitive' Coach in Sitaare Zameen Par, a Thematic Sequel to Taare Zameen Par

Aamir Khan is back with an exciting new project that has fans buzzing with anticipation. After much speculation, the superstar has revealed intriguing details about Sitaare Zameen Par, a thematic sequel to his iconic 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. In a recent chat with his China fan club, which he shared on X, Aamir spoke about his character, the story, and the emotional journey that the film will take audiences on.

“I’m working on Sitaare Zameen Par right now. It’s almost ready,” Aamir confirmed. He further clarified that the film is not a direct continuation of Taare Zameen Par, but a thematic evolution that delves deeper into the lives of differently-abled individuals. “It’s not a direct sequel to Taare Zameen Par, but thematically, it goes ten steps ahead. While Taare Zameen Par made you cry, this one will make you laugh. It’s a comedy, but with the same underlying message—it’s about love, friendship, and the lives of people who are differently abled,” Aamir explained.

This time, Aamir’s role marks a significant shift from his previous portrayal of Ram Shankar Nikumbh. Instead of playing the compassionate and understanding teacher, Aamir will take on the role of Gulshan, a brash and politically incorrect basketball coach. “This time I play Gulshan—a man who is the complete opposite of Nikumbh. He’s brash, politically incorrect, and insults everyone. He fights with his wife, his mother, and even beats up his senior coach. He’s a basketball coach with deep-rooted internal issues,” said Aamir. He added that the story is about how Gulshan undergoes a transformation through his interactions with people on the spectrum, learning valuable life lessons along the way.

The film is inspired by the Spanish sports comedy Champions, which follows a disgraced basketball coach who is tasked with training a team of players with intellectual disabilities. Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par will see Aamir reunite with Taare Zameen Par actor Darsheel Safary and star opposite Genelia Deshmukh. Although the release date has not been confirmed yet, fans are eagerly awaiting what promises to be another heartwarming, transformative cinematic experience from Aamir Khan.
