Aamir Khan to be the Olympic torch bearer

After a feisty performance in his directorial debut film 'Taare Zameen Par', renowned Bollywood actor Aamir Khan will now don the role of a torch bearer for the Olympic torch relay scheduled for April 17 in New Delhi.

Aamir Khan will now don the role of a torch bearer for the Olympic torch relay scheduled for April 17 in New Delhi.

Besides Aamir, five other prominent persons, including the former Director General (Bureau of Police Research and Development) Dr Kiran Bedi, president BAIF Development Research Foundation Narayan Hegde, Secretary General and CEO, World Wildlife Fund Ravi Singh, President and CEO Coca Cola India Atul Singh and environmentalist Y Subhash Chandra Reddy will be a part of the Olympic torch relay.

Six persons, who are a part of the Coca Cola (presenting partner for the Beijing Olympics) Environment Champions have pledged to protect the environment and support the cause of water conservation. According to Aamir, the feeling is more special as it has given him the opportunity to raise awareness on environment.

The cola giant plans to hold painting competitions in schools across the country on the theme, `The need to protect environment.'
