In an earnest and relatable video shared on World Mental Health Day, Aamir Khan and his daughter, Ira Khan, opened up about their ongoing journey with therapy. The video, posted on their respective Instagram accounts and Aamir Khan Productions, is a testament to their commitment to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health.
In the video, Aamir Khan eloquently draws a parallel between seeking therapy and seeking assistance from professionals in other fields, such as doctors, teachers, or carpenters. He emphasizes the normalcy of reaching out to trained mental health professionals when facing emotional or mental health challenges.
Ira Khan, speaking in Hindi, adds her voice to the conversation, stating, "Similarly, if we ever need help with our mental or emotional health, we should seek help, with the same ease and lack of hesitation, from someone who's trained and is a professional."
Both Aamir and Ira proudly acknowledge that they have been benefiting from therapy for years. Aamir concludes the video with a supportive message, encouraging everyone to seek help if they are experiencing mental or emotional issues, assuring them that there is no shame in it.
Ira included the hashtag "#imhuman" in the Instagram caption of the post, underlining the idea that seeking therapy is a human endeavor. She further shared the video on her Instagram Stories, urging her followers to join in "breaking the stigma" surrounding therapy. Ira also shared posts from individuals who shared their positive experiences with therapy, including actors Ali Fazal and Vir Das.
