Gone are the times of quintessential saas-bahu sagas and monotonous dramas. Television in India has evolved to an extent where never-seen-before styles, 'risky' ideas and many more characteristics are gaining centre stage.

Coming with once such astonishingly fresh idea is the upcoming show, 'Vishkanya'. The show, as the name suggests will be about a 'vishkanya' (literally translated to poison girl) portrayed by debutant actress, Aishwarya Khare who is named Aparajita aka Appu. The young belle is tutored by her proud mother, Kalpana Ghosh (Rohini Banerjee) who has barred her from the outer world for eighteen years. However, now with coming of age, Appu wants to live freely. Enters the handsome, young and most eligible bachelor in town, Malay Mittal (Vin Rana) who is smitten by Appu at his first sight. Surrounded by a web of manipulation, lies, revenge and love, 'Vishkanya' has been buzzing around the town since its launch.

I list down the five key things which gets us excited about the show apart from the central plot..

Different Concept
Even before we start, the thing that has to be cleared is that, the show is NOTHING similar to the superhit on-going show, 'Naagin'. The show's concept about 'vishkanyas' takes the bold and unique step of amalgamating history and fantasy. Where vishkanyas apparently did exist in the ancient times for real, the show takes that aspect and teases the same with fantasy and fairy tale saga. The mixture of fantasy and reality is always anticipated more than anything else. It all just becomes a lot more believable, doesn't it?

The background of Kolkata
One of the most artistic, aesthetic and colorful places in the world, the city of Kolkata is a visual treat in itself. And the show is set in the backdrop of Kolkata, more precisely, the old-world Kolkata. The promos showcase the old lanes and festivities which gives you a very vintage feel about the city and indirectly about the show. Amidst all the repetitive and similar looking sets in various shows, this one certainly offers a shift. A much needed one!

The traits of the character of Kalpana Ghosh
The show hasn't aired as of yet. However, the mere description of the character of Kalpana Ghosh already makes it an alluring one. She is a proud, yet financially struggling lady who uses her seductive charm to stay afloat in a man's world. She is also responsible for keeping her daughter Aparajita isolated for several years and that is for a hidden motive, which is vengeance. How much more versatile can it get? With numerous shades to this character, it surely isn't everyday that one gets such an amazing character to portray. And of course, topping it all, seasoned actress Rohini Banerjee is essaying the role.

A relatively new star cast
Usually we get excited about popular actors playing roles in new shows. However, when it comes to this show, the mere look-and-feel of it plays the guessing game with you courtesy its mysterious and curious tracks. And this guessing game also qualifies for the cast of the show as well. Where one expects particular characteristics from their favorite actors who play new roles in new shows, this element of surprise in Vishkanya' is actually one of its biggest USP.

The never done before encounter of a Bengali and a Marwari family
The show will be portraying a sparse and isolated Bengali family consisting of Aparajita, Tapur (Medha Bhattacharya) and Kalpana. On the other hand, it will also showcase a Marwari family consisting of Malay Mittal and other members.  It can surely be said that, east is set to meet the west. When these two worlds will collide, which is obvious, considering the love angle between Malay and Aparajita is all set to blossom, it is going to be an absolute delight. Things get interesting, doesn't it?
The show, 'Vishkanya' is all set to launch today, at 6: 30 pm and repeats at 10: 30 pm on Zee TV. How excited are you about the show? Leave in your comments below...
