Indian TV has only recently begun using and working on the concept of seasons and short movies, where the viewers are usually glued to a particular show for years and years and that too constantly. While we know that Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is the longest running sitcom as it currently is in its 11th year, but if and when we talk about the number of episodes, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai passed the hallmark of 2500 episodes several months ago and is currently the longest running Indian TV show and ongoing.

Today marks the day when the show completes 10 years of runtime and exactly 10 years ago on 12th January 2009 we saw a show come on our TV screens, which not many would have anticipated on going on to become a sensation.

Here are 5 reasons why we think Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai tested the beast that time is and emerged victorious.

Family Values, but NO saas-bahu drama

The show came in at a time when Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii just went off-air less than a year ago. People were already at the brim of consuming the saas-bahu sagas and wanted a break from it. Yeh Rishta.. did give an impression of being just another addition to the bandwagon but it wasn't. The show tapped into something that not many highlighted till then and that was family values. Barring the saas-bahu drama, how can family values and bonds be showcased was what Yeh Rishta was about and it connected instantly.

Need To Adapt

It is evident that the cast of the show today and the one 10 years ago is almost a complete switchover of sorts. But that's the thing, the show's transition into bringing in new faces as an ensemble was so smooth that it allowed the viewers to get adapted and love or hate the new faces while some old faces were gradually bowing out. Of course, there still are some faces in the show that have been there since day one, but the amalgamation of old and new was endearing and almost a lesson for other shows to learn.

Overcoming the Change-Of-Leads Curse

It is almost an obvious curse in the Indian TV industry over the years that if a long-running show faces a big blow and sees its leads getting replaced, it is bound to be doomed later. That curse was broken by Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai as it witnessed the amazing transition of Karan Mehra - Hina Khan to Mohsin Khan - Shivangi Joshi. The planning of the change was done brilliantly, where the viewers did not have too much to complain over the old favourite's exits and had a lot to love the new faces in the show.

Always A Vibe Of Togetherness

Almost every show has a set of people who get along well and enjoy themselves being on sets.  But, the best part of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is that since all these years, there is a vibe of togetherness that it has constantly managed to portray. Be it the old ensemble or the new ensemble, just like their on-screen characters, in real life too they seem like one big happy family and that's what the viewers love to see.

Rajan Shahi - The Man Responsible

We get it, every producer is usually actively involved with the show and there is no big deal about it as such. But producer and creator Rajan Shahi has been a man who has been responsible for making the show what it is today. Be it his involvement with the tiniest of matters to largest of controversies, Rajan has tackled all of it by taking the onus on himself. The man made sure that the smallest of feats to the biggest of achievements were celebrated on the sets with the whole cast time and again maintaining the family vibe very. The leading men and women are usually considered to be the faces, but in this case, Rajan Shahi has been the face of the show and continues to be.

There you have it. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai completes 10 glorious years today and we are certain there is an eternity to come!

We wish the whole team of the show loads of congratulations and continued success.
