So you think, you can dance

Last time Ali Asgar had hosted a dance show Say Shava Shava, this time in Zara Nachke Dikha, he is all set to burn the floor with his moves
What prompted you to be a part of dance competition? Have you danced before?
I have danced at a few TV events but am not really a dancer. The main reason I agreed to be a part of this show is, I always want to do something that I haven't tried before. I showcased my humourous side in Comedy Circus, have done serious drama in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, and hosted a dance show Say Shava Shava. In fact, when Star approached me, I thought it was an offer to host the show. When they told me they wanted me to be one of the participants I was taken aback. Still, I went ahead because I am confident I can entertain the audience.

Most of your co-contestants have already been part of dance reality shows.
Yes and that's precisely the reason I have a high comfort level with them. Apart from having worked with them earlier, I realised that I have some established dancers like Gaurav Ghopra and Manish Goel with me. They have been through the grind, known the pressures and I hope that after a few episodes their expertise will rub off on me. One thing I know, I won't look bad as a dancer. I am working hard and with every rehearsal I am improving. I know there will be a lot of pressure on me as I will be judged by the judges and the audience. Every actor has some standing with the audience as they have seen us in some serial or the other. I don't want my Kahaani... viewers to say, "yeh accha khaasa dialogue bol raha tha, isko kya ho gaya'.

Which are the songs you have danced to?
I can't exactly reveal the songs, but I have chosen a few Govinda songs. The difference between a Prabhu Deva and a Govinda is that while the former is a pure dancer, the latter is an entertainer. Though I am not comparing myself with him, I know I will entertain. I have a sense of rhythm and flexibility.

Would most of your dances have a dash of humour?
I know people will be expecting me to bring some humour in my dances. But I want to break that image which is why you will see me doing hip-hop also.

The show is being touted to be a war between the sexes. How competitive is it?
The whole idea of the show is it's boys Vs girls. There will be a lot of rounds to bring out that competition. Group dances, solo performances, duet dances, mix n match, challengers' round - it will be full dhamaal. Then there's something worse than elimination, i.e, usually after you are ousted you are free. Here you won't be, there's something more, which I can't reveal now. The show is on Star, which has done has done Nach Baliye, earlier. Now they want to outdo it. As for competition, of course, we boys would like to win it, but even if we don't our rivals are actresses whom we have worked with. They are our colleagues, so the rivalry is healthy.

We've heard that you have lost weight.
Yes, I have lost around six kilos since the time I have started rehearsing and I am feeling good.

What is happening in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii?
Right now, we are following a murder track with everybody in the family being a suspect.

Any films coming up?
I have two films Horn Ok Please, which is an out and out comedy and Shortkut in which I play an interesting character. It has some grey shades and a little bit of humour. In Horn.. I am playing a comic role and I consider myself fortunate to have worked with Nana patekar. It has been a learning experience. It's a myth that Nana is a difficult actor to work. He is one of the best actors and I would like to work with him.

When is your Marathi film releasing?
Man Pakharu Pakharu is the name of the film and Sachin Pilgaonkar has acted in it. The film is ready but because of IPL and the rains, I did not release it. It should hit the theatres in September
